ROUNDUP : Moorpark Wins 5th Softball Title in a Row
Moorpark College continued its domination of Western State Conference softball by beating Pierce, 11-0, Wednesday at Moorpark to clinch its fifth consecutive outright conference championship.
In that five-year span, Moorpark has a 59-3 conference record. Moorpark (26-6, 8-0 in WSC play), ranked No. 2 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports, has won seven conference championships during Will Thurston’s eight years as coach.
Kathy Morales (17-2) scattered six hits and homered for Moorpark.
In other college softball games:
Cal Lutheran 10-12, Pomona-Pitzer 0-2--Brenda Frafjord was six for six with six runs batted in to lead host Cal Lutheran (28-6) to a nonconference sweep.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Simi Valley 30, Newbury Park 10--Kevin Nykoluk hit two home runs and Ryan Hankins had three hits in Simi Valley’s school-record 17-run fifth inning in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park. Hankins, a freshman, had two singles and a double in the fifth and a three-run homer in the sixth for the Pioneers (17-3, 8-1), whose school record for runs in a game is 32 against Canoga Park in 1985.
Camarillo 8, Westlake 3--Robert Sanchez and Mike Muncy each had two doubles for Camarillo in a Marmonte League game.
Chaminade 2, Alemany 0--Ted Corcoran (2-6) scattered four hits and walked none for Chaminade in a Mission League game at home.
El Segundo 8, Harvard 6--Jono Pivo hit two home runs for Harvard (6-11, 2-3) in a San Fernando Valley League game.
St. Genevieve 7, La Salle 2--St. Genevieve’s Bobby Kite hit a two-run home run and Fernando Barba added a three-run double in a San Fernando Valley League game.
St. Bernard 5, Notre Dame 3--Sean Dunbar of St. Bernard hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning of a Mission League game.
Ridgecrest Burroughs 16, Antelope Valley 7--Host Antelope Valley was undone by five errors in the Golden League game.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Cleveland 17, Kennedy 2--Marsha Brown had a bases-loaded triple for Cleveland (6-4, 3-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Chatsworth 6, Taft 4--Metza Simpson (6-0) limited Taft to five hits in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Alemany 6, Chaminade 0--Patti Seresi and Steffanie Parks each had two hits for Alemany (13-2, 5-0) in a Mission League game.
Granada Hills 3, San Fernando 2 (nine innings)--Kasey Miller scored the winning run in the ninth inning on Amy Sanchez’s bunt.
El Camino Real 5, Reseda 1--Carrie Reulbach had a double and two RBIs for El Camino Real in a West Valley League game.
