Sun Microsystems Inc.: The Mountain View, Calif., computer maker reported that its third-quarter profit soared 60% to $58.7 million as it shipped a record 48,000 computers. Revenue jumped 34% to $848.3 million. Sun said an effort to hold down costs was one factor in its increased profitability.
