Paramount Plea Rejected: A California appeals court has refused to overturn a key decision against Paramount Pictures in a dispute with columnist Art Buchwald and producer Alain Bernheim over the film “Coming to America.” Paramount had asked the court to void a preliminary decision by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Harvey Schneider that held provisions in the contract to be “unconscionable.” In a prepared statement, Paramount said: “We are disappointed that the court of appeal chose not to step in at this stage of the proceedings because we believe the decision is fundamentally wrong. However, we are confident that ultimately we will prevail on the merits.”
