Ashton-Tate Corp., Torrance, has named Chief Executive Bill Lyons to the additional post of chairman. He succeeds Carmelo Santoro, an outside director who had been serving as non-executive chairman of the board. Santoro will become vice chairman and chairman of the executive committee. Ashton-Tate also promoted David Proctor, executive vice president for product development, to president and chief operating officer. Proctor succeeds Lyons as president. Chief operating officer is a new position for the company. Additionally, the company promoted Floyd Bradley to the new position of senior vice president, international. Bradley had been vice president and general manager of Ashton-Tate’s European operations.
