“HOMO NOVUS”(Hungary; Pal Erdoss; AFI Warner, 6:45 p.m.). Another Eastern European indictment of the Socialist system, done in personal terms: A group of students turn against their authoritarian teacher and make her life a living hell. Exceptionally well told, with a very chilling last image. (Sheila Benson)
Others: “Amazonia: Voices From the Rain Forest” (Monica 4-Plex, 9 p.m.): A well-intentioned but loosely constructed report on the rain forest’s destruction. (S.B.)
