Hearings Set for Titan Player

FULLERTON —  A pretrial hearing date of May 1 and a preliminary hearing date of May 23 have been set for Cal State Fullerton basketball player Greg Vernon, who was arrested with teammate Michael Bloodworth Feb. 27 in connection with the theft of a student’s car and the use of stolen credit cards.

Vernon, 18, pleaded not guilty in North Orange County Municipal Court Thursday to four felony counts (auto theft, receiving stolen property, illegal credit card charge and unlawful credit card use) and one misdemeanor count (unlawful credit card use).

One of the Titans’ most promising young players, Vernon averaged 2.1 points a game as a freshman this past season.

Bloodworth, an 18-year-old freshman who played only six minutes, faces two counts of misdemeanor credit card fraud, but his arraignment date hasn’t been set.

Vernon and Bloodworth, who missed Fullerton’s last two games, have been suspended indefinitely from the basketball program.
