PREP TRACK ROUNDUP : Esperanza Boys’ Track Team Breezes Past El Dorado
Warming up for Saturday’s Orange County boys’ track and field championships, Esperanza routed El Dorado, 93-43, in an Empire League meet Thursday at Esperanza.
Mark Parlin won the shotput with a Southern Section-leading throw of 65 feet 6 1/4 inches and the discus with a throw of 172-4. His season best of 186-2 is the section’s leading discus mark. Roshawn Sims of Esperanza won the 200 meters in 21.8 seconds and the 400 in 48.7.
In an Empire League girls’ meet:
Esperanza 73, El Dorado 53--Senior Lynn Murray won the 200 (26.0) and the 400 meters (1:00.5), and Megan Murray, her sophomore sister, won the 300-meter low hurdles (49.6) for Esperanza.
In a Sea View League boys’ meet:
Newport Harbor 77, Tustin 59--Brent Busch of Newport Harbor won the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.8 and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 40.5.
In a South Coast League boys’ meet:
Dana Hills 73 1/2, El Toro 62 1/2--Dan Niednagel of Dana Hills got a push from Greg Nelson of El Toro in the 800 meters, winning in a time of 1:57.0. Nelson ran 1:59.9.
In a South Coast League girls’ meet:
Irvine 73, San Clemente 54--Irvine’s Tracy Broughton won the 100 hurdles (16.3), the high jump (5-2), the long jump (16-7 3/4) and the triple jump (35-7 3/4). Kelly Roda of Irvine won the 1,600 meters in 5:34.0 and the 3,200 in 11:05.0.
