Girl, 3, Killed in Pacoima Camper Fire
A 3-year-old girl was killed Thursday in a fire that destroyed two campers behind a Pacoima house, authorities said.
The fire began about 4:30 p.m. behind a house in the 10500 block of Telfair Avenue and took 15 firefighters about 10 minutes to extinguish, Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said. Damage to both campers was estimated at $2,500.
Firefighters found the girl’s body in one of the campers. Her name was not made public. A baby-sitter was also at the house at the time of the fire, Acevedo said.
Lt. Tom Jones of the Police Department’s Foothill Division said fire investigators were exploring the possibility that the fire was begun by the girl playing with matches. “It appears to have been started by the victim,” Jones said.
