Exclusively Universal: Martin Scorsese has joined the ranks of Woody Allen in the rare group of prominent film directors who have teamed with one studio to distribute their work exclusively. While Allen has had a deal with Orion Pictures for years, Universal Pictures and Scorsese announced Monday they had entered a six-year agreement during which the multi-Oscar nominated director will produce and direct for the studio. Scorsese was at work in New York editing his next film, “Cape Fear,” for Universal, and could not be reached for comment. But a spokesman for Universal said that, prior to the contract, Scorsese already had made plans for two projects that will be exceptions--one undisclosed and the other, “Age of Innocence,” for 20th Century Fox.
