Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Credit Card Firm Plans Price Rebates
Citibank, the world’s largest issuer of credit cards, plans to guarantee that purchases made with its cards will be at the lowest possible price for an item, a newspaper reported. Other card companies are expected to follow suit, the New York Times said. A cardholder who buys a videocassette recorder, for example, then finds it sold elsewhere for a lower price could claim a rebate of the difference from Citibank, the newspaper said. The service would not cover items such as air travel, art, antiques or goods bought at going-out-of-business, limited quantity and cash-only sales, the newspaper said.
