Rolling Hills 77, Mira Costa 74--Junior guard Chad Heitzler made the big plays down the stretch to lift the Titans (2-0) in the quarterfinals at Mira Costa.

Heitzler, who finished with 17 points, made a rare four-point play with 2:04 remaining to erase a Mira Costa lead and later sank two free-throws with six seconds left to account for the final margin.

After Mira Costa (2-1) took a 72-70 lead on a layup by forward Canyon Ceman, Heitzler came back to hit a three-point shot and was fouled. He converted the free throw to put Rolling Hills ahead, 74-72.

Mira Costa tied it with 1:19 left on a short basket by 6-7 center Chris Davis, who led the Mustangs with 18 points and 17 rebounds. Rolling Hills took the lead for good, 75-74, when guard Steve Clover made one of two free throws with 58 seconds left. Clover led all scorers with 26 points, including five three-point shots.

Mira Costa had a chance to tie with 36 seconds left, but Ceman, who had 18 points, missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw and Rolling Hills’ Roger Hendrix rebounded the ball. Hendrix had 17 points, all in the first half.

Lakewood 63, Culver City 62--Terrance O’Kelly made the front end of a one-and-one with two seconds left in overtime to give Lakewood (3-0) the win as the Lancers advanced to the semifinals.

Culver City (1-1) led, 51-39, with 5:23 left in the fourth quarter. But Culver City point guard Kevin Brown, the Centaurs’ primary ball handler, fouled out and the Centaurs committed five turnovers.

Lakewood fought back and tied the score at 56 on a layup by Andrae Walker.

Culver City’s Greg Hooks missed a 15-foot jumper from left of the key as time ran out in regulation with the score tied at 56.

In the overtime, Lakewood led twice by four points, but the Centaurs tied the score at 62 on a jumper by Mike Green with 23 seconds left. This set up O’Kelly’s free throw. O’Kelly led Lakewood with 26 points.
