Pete Rose, Cincinnati Reds manager, met with baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth amid reports that Rose’s gambling on sports other than baseball was the subject of the meeting.
The New York Times and the Cincinnati Enquirer reported in Wednesday editions that the meeting covered rumors that Rose had been a betting partner in a $265,669.20 Pick Six payoff Jan. 25 at a Florence, Ky. track.
Rose and Ueberroth would neither confirm nor deny that gambling was a reason for the visit.
