DUBLIN, Ireland — Dublin, the “fair city” of song, is enshrouded in a thick pall of smog that has turned day into night and is threatening the lives of residents, officials said Sunday.
Angry opposition politicians in Ireland’s capital, which has been choked in smog for a week, have warned that people could die soon unless the government acts. Smoke levels exceeded European Communities safety limits for six successive nights last week, stirring memories of 1982, when a smog episode killed 56 Dubliners.
