Pierce’s Season Ends Dismally in Loss to Compton
The end was fitting for the Pierce College football team.
The Brahmas (1-9, 1-8) quietly watched Compton quarterback Damone Scott kneel on the Pierce College turf and run the clock out on their dismal season. Compton (3-7, 3-6) won 16-12.
With 12:40 left in the game, Marc Harris capped a 4-play, 50-yard drive with a 13-yard touchdown run which cut the deficit to 16-12. Michael Knieriem’s conversion pass failed.
Pierce first scored when receiver Chad Zeigler ran in a 4-yard reverse with 47 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Pierce went for the 2-point conversion but the pass failed.
Compton took the opening kickoff of the second half and drove 61 yards in 7 plays to the Brahmas’ 2. Scott capped the drive on the following play which gave the Tartars the margin of victory.
Christopher Mims blocked the PAT attempt and the Tartars had to settle for a 16-0 lead.
The Tartars drove to the Pierce 6 with less than a minute remaining in the half but were unable to score. With 13 seconds left Juan Renoso converted from 24 yards to give Compton a 10-0 halftime lead.
