THE COLLEGES : Titan Forward Brown Quits Basketball Team
Michael Brown, a 6-foot 7-inch freshman forward and a potential starter, has quit the Cal State Fullerton basketball team, Coach John Sneed said Friday.
Brown’s departure leaves Sneed with 10 healthy players. One other player, forward Brent Calvin, is sidelined with a knee injury.
Brown is the second potential starter to leave the Fullerton team since practice began Oct. 15. William Allen, a community college transfer, left the team before George McQuarn’s resignation as coach Nov. 3.
Brown had practiced with the team only sparingly during the preseason because he was ill with mononucleosis.
“He had been very down emotionally since McQuarn left,” Sneed said. “With all his illness, he was behind and disappointed with basketball. He decided he was so far behind he would just check out of school at the semester.”
Brown, who averaged 16 points and 13 rebounds a game at Westchester High School last season, could not be reached for comment.
