SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: DIVISION VI : Leasure’s 5 Touchdowns Give Valencia 42-6 Victory
Halfback Keef Leasure scored 5 touchdowns to lead top-seeded Valencia High School to a 42-6 Southern Section Division VI first-round victory over Los Amigos Friday in front of 2,100 at Valencia High School.
Valencia (10-0-1), the defending division champion, will play Sunny Hills in the quarterfinals.
Los Amigos, which finished third in the Garden Grove League, ended the season 4-6-1.
Defensive back Kelly Cotton intercepted a Tracy Garrett pass and returned it 19 yards for a touchdown to give Los Amigos a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.
It took less than 3 minutes for Valencia to take the lead. With 5:41 left in the quarter, Leasure ran 18 yards for a touchdown and Richard Wells’ extra point kick gave the Tigers a 7-6 lead.
Leasure, who ran for 166 yards, scored again with 2:21 left in the quarter on a 21-yard run.
Leasure’s 3 other touchdowns were on runs of 10, 24 and 14 yards. Running back Kevin Thomas scored the other Valencia touchdown on a 7-yard run in the second quarter.
Valencia intercepted Shane Rudney 4 times, with 2 interceptions by Scott Wilson.
