Sunny Hills Sweeps Villa Park in Volleyball
Marissa Hatchett had 22 kills and 6 blocks and Wendy Barnett contributed 28 assists to lead top-seeded Sunny Hills High School to a 15-1, 15-5, 15-9 victory over Villa Park in a Southern Section 3-A semifinal Thursday at Canyon High School.
Hatchett had 9 kills in the first game as Sunny Hills (18-2) took a 12-0 lead.
Sunny Hills, which plays El Modena in the final Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Marina High School, got 5 early kills, a service ace and a scoring stuff block from Hatchett as the Lancers took a 10-1 second-game lead. The Spartans narrowed the lead to 10-5 before Sunny Hills scored 5 consecutive points.
Hatchett continued her domination of Villa Park to start the third game as she helped the Lancers take a 7-1 lead with 4 kills and a stuff block at the net.
