Kenyan Police Kill 2 Elephant Poachers
NAIROBI, Kenya — Police fought a gun battle with elephant poachers in a national park, killing two of them, a newspaper reported Thursday.
The poachers were killed Wednesday in Tsavo East National Park in a clash with paramilitary police, the Standard reported. Police sought an undisclosed number of other poachers Thursday, it said.
Police were sent to reinforce game rangers in Tsavo East and neighboring Tsavo West national parks, 225 miles south of Nairobi, in August after poachers killed a ranch foreman and a policeman. Nine policemen and rangers were injured.
