Local News in Brief : Countywide : Contract Awarded for Design of New Bus Lane
A $5.5-million contract for the design of a bus lane for the Santa Ana Freeway has been awarded by the Orange County Transit District to Parsons Brinckeroff Quade and Douglas Inc. of Orange.
The busway, to be built in the freeway median as the highway is widened from the current six to 10 lanes, will also be open to car pools.
A joint effort of the state Transportation Department and the transit district, the busway will be built from 4th Street in Santa Ana to the junction of the Santa Ana, Garden Grove and Orange freeways.
The $239-million project is scheduled for completion in 1995.
The project includes special ramps to transfer southbound Santa Ana Freeway buses and car pools directly onto the Costa Mesa Freeway’s southbound ride-share lane and for similar northbound transitions.
The design contract was awarded last week.
