Some Celebrities and Hollywood community representatives gathered at City Hall on Thursday to urge support of a proposed program that could generate up to $25 million annually for non-profit arts in Los Angeles. Robert Foxworth, Rene Auberjonois, Marla Gibbs, Screen Actors Guild President Barry Gordon and others urged passage of the Los Angeles Endowment for the Arts, a proposed public-private partnership scheduled for Los Angeles City Council vote Tuesday. The proposed endowment would set cultural policy and generate funds through a 1% assessment on city capital improvements, a 1 % tax on private development of projects over $500,000 and a portion of the city’s hotel tax. The city’s art budget is now about $4 million.
