A psychiatric patient who threatened in a fan letter to commit suicide in front of actress Sharon Gless was ordered late Wednesday by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to stay at least 200 yards away from the “Cagney & Lacey” co-star. Superior Court Judge Kurt Lewin issued a permanent restraining order that said Joni Leigh Penn must remain 200 yards away from Gless’ family members and stay 1,000 yards away from the actress’ home and residences of her family members, said her attorney and brother, Michael Gless. Sharon Gless said Penn was often seen wandering near the “Cagney & Lacey” set and followed studio technicians to off-lot filming locations. On Oct. 25, according to attorneys, Penn went to Gless’ home and told her secretary she had a gun.
