Ex-Harbor Gridder Canadian All-Star
David Williams, a former Harbor College and Serra High standout, has picked up another award after a record-setting first season in the Canadian Football League.
Williams, a wide receiver with the British Columbia Lions, was a unanimous selection for the CFL’s Western Division all-star team announced Wednesday by the Football Reporters of Canada.
Williams led the CFL in receiving with 83 catches, receiving yards (1,468) and touchdowns (18). The touchdown receptions tied the CFL record set by Edmonton’s Brian Kelly in 1984.
Williams previously had won the Jess Nicklin Memorial Trophy as the Most Outstanding Player in the Western Division and is one of two finalists for the Schenley Award given to the league’s Most Outstanding Player.
Williams played one season with the Seahawks, transferred to Illinois and was a consensus All-American in 1984 after leading the nation with 101 catches.
