Fashion Design Group Will Honor First Lady

NEW YORK — First Lady Nancy Reagan will be given the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, a top industry organization, its president, designer Oscar de la Renta, announced Monday.
The announcement said Mrs. Reagan was chosen because “she has supported our industry with grace and dignity and has represented our country both here and abroad with great style.” The awards will be presented Jan. 9 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art here.
