Ex-Wife Held in Colonel’s Death
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Haitian police have arrested the ex-wife and servants of the notorious retired Col. Jean-Claude Paul for allegedly poisoning his pumpkin soup, radio stations reported today.
Port-au-Prince Police Chief Col. Georges Valcin said officers arrested Mireille Delinois, Paul’s former wife, and two servants shortly after Paul’s death Sunday. Paul, 49, who was forced into retirement Sept. 30 as part of a purge designed to clean up Haiti’s reputation for human rights abuses, died Sunday after reportedly suffering a heart attack at his ranch outside the capital.
