G.D. Searle & Co., which was hit in September with an $8.75-million judgment in a Copper-7 birth control device case, said it won a pre-verdict ruling in a different lawsuit over the contraceptive. U.S. District Court in Philadelphia granted a summary judgment in favor of Searle in the case of a woman who alleged that Searle failed to adequately warn her doctor of potential hazards of the intrauterine device. Skokie, Ill.-based Searle argued that, after 1977, the Copper-7 carried an expanded warning about potential health risks.
