Walsh, Greenwood & Co., the New York broker-dealer that is bidding $178.4-million for Champion Products Inc., said in a filing with the SEC that it might seek additional shares in the open market if the athletic uniform maker rejects its offer. Champion shares jumped $6.375 to $49.25 on the American Stock Exchange after the news was announced, putting the stock at a high for the year and closer to the $52-a-share Walsh Greenwood bid. Champion makes and distributes athletic and leisure wear, uniforms, T-shirts, physical education uniforms, jackets, caps and banners.
