Poland’s national airline will acquire its first non-Soviet aircraft, three Boeing 767 wide-body jets, in a deal that will make Boeing Co. the first supplier of Western planes to a Soviet Bloc nation. The deal is worth $220 million to Boeing and General Electric Co., the engine supplier. LOT Polish Airlines said it would offer for the first time two classes of service--business and economy--on the new jets. Only one class is normally offered. LOT said the three jets would be used on flights between Poland and the United States and should help double its traffic between the countries as early as next year.
