Real estate developer Donald Trump has agreed to act as business and boxing manager for heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, the New York Times said.

Trump, the hotel and casino owner who bankrolled Tyson’s successful title defense June 27 against Michael Spinks in Atlantic City, N.J., said that Tyson asked him “to serve jointly” as his career adviser and to help him with lawsuits against Tyson’s current manager, Bill Cayton.

Tyson is suing Cayton in an attempt to void contracts under which Cayton received one-third of all of Tyson’s boxing earnings. Tyson received a little less than $21 million for the Spinks fight alone.

“I feel like Tyson’s lawsuit is a very good one,” Trump said. “The contract is onerous and unfair. If Mike knew Jim Jacobs was not going to be around, that he was terminally ill, I don’t believe he’d have signed the present contract. His relationship was with Jim Jacobs, not Bill Cayton.”

Although Trump would not disclose details, he said he will be paid a substantial fee, which he will donate to various charities. Trump said he will hire a boxing expert to help with decisions concerning future opponents.
