Michael Stewart, who departed CBS Songs early this year after unsuccessfully bidding to buy it, has surfaced as head of newly formed Evergreen Entertainment Group, Los Angeles. He and his two associates in the joint venture say it will be involved in music publishing, records and motion pictures.

Stewart is chairman, president and chief executive. His partners, New York real estate entrepreneurs Ian Bruce Eichner and Henry S. Miller, are vice chairmen and executive vice presidents.

Beginning as an independent music publisher, Stewart later was credited with bringing the Beatles to United Artists for films, recordings and publishing. He served as president of United Artists Music and vice president of United Artists Pictures. He later joined with the West German firm, Berlesmann GMBH, to form Interworld Music Group.

Several years later he became head of CBS’s publishing unit and changed its name from April Blackwood Music to CBS Songs. When CBS was selling off various assets, CBS Songs was bought by SBK Entertainment World.
