Hawaii’s Hotel Tax

Families planning to visit Hawaii should be alerted to the very high tax imposed on hotel accommodations.
On a recent vacation, we discovered that there is both a 5% hotel tax and a 4% sales tax. For our accommodations, that translated into a $238 surprise at check-out time for an 11-day visit.
