Valerie Harper fans across the country are campaigning for the TV star, who was released from the NBC sitcom “Valerie” (now renamed “Valerie’s Family”) after a salary dispute. In Melbourne, Fla., radio station WMMY has gathered about 100 signatures on a petition to reinstate Harper on the show. When Shay St. Clair, music director and on-air personality, told her listeners that she would be writing to NBC to voice her disapproval, she received 200 phone calls in support. St. Clair then organized the petition. In other developments: Dorsey Lawson, a self-described “longtime Valerie Harper fan,” has organized a national letter-writing campaign in the hopes of rounding up 1.5 million letters.
