A few lines scribbled by former Beatle John Lennon on an envelope and two brown paper bags in a lavatory sold for $17,600 at a rock and pop memorabilia auction Wednesday, Phillips’ auctioneers in London said. The words--written in a hotel bathroom somewhere in central England in 1964--went on to form the opening chapter of Lennon’s book, “A Spaniard in the Works.” The envelopes were bought by representatives of London’s Hard Rock Cafe.
