A ‘Non-Nuclear’ Blast Reported by Soviets

MOSCOW — The Soviet Union said it detonated a non-nuclear explosion for military purposes on the archipelago of Novaya Zemlya in the Arctic Circle.
The Tuesday blast was conducted above ground at a test site east of the Barents Sea, the official news agency Tass said.
