Mission Viejo’s Burkholder Is 2nd in Diving
Joy Burkholder of Mission Viejo took a second in the girls’ age 13-and-under one-meter springboard event Wednesday on the first day of the Junior Olympic Diving Championships at Heritage Park in Irvine.
Cerry Wigginton of Texas won the event with a score of 292.30. Burkholder had 289.05, and Susie Dorrough of Los Angeles was third at 272.00.
Vanessa Bergman of Santa Clara scored 398.30 to win the girls’ 14-15 three-meter springboard event. Jenna Weiss (386.05) of Florida was second and Terri Seipel (373.45) of Texas third.
Jace McNeil (323.10) of Texas won the boys’ 13-and-under one-meter springboard championship, and Brian Ramos (437.20) of Florida won the boys’ 14-15 one-meter springboard championship.
The competition continues through Sunday, starting at 10 a.m.
