Body of Sailor Lost After Copter Crash in Gulf Recovered
WASHINGTON — The Pentagon said today the body of one of three men missing from a July 30 helicopter accident in the Persian Gulf had been recovered and identified as Navy Radioman 2nd Class Albert B. Duparl of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The body was located in the gulf’s waters Tuesday along with some debris from the helicopter, the Pentagon said. The body was sent to Bahrain, where it was identified.
Duparl was one of nine passengers and crew members aboard a Navy SH-3G Sea King helicopter that was attempting to land on the flagship LaSalle after a routine ferry flight from land. The helicopter crashed, apparently after striking the side of the vessel.
