A three-judge federal panel formally granted independent counsel James C. McKay authority to investigate all possible violations in his widening probe of Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III’s involvement with the scandal-plagued Wedtech Corp. The panel issued its order in response to requests by the Justice Department on behalf of McKay to define his “investigative and prosecutorial jurisdiction.” Meese is under scrutiny for his role in helping Wedtech get a $32-million defense contract and for investments with a financial adviser linked to the firm.
