A nuclear power plant in Clinton, Ill., was shut down and an emergency was declared after at least one bomb threat was made against the facility, but authorities said a search had found no explosives. Illinois Power Co. spokesman Al Adams said a caller warned that explosives had been planted in the central Illinois facility. The caller claimed the explosives were stolen from the University of Illinois last week. Adams said other calls were made a short time later, including some to local news media. On Aug. 10, 95 sticks of TNT and 15 booster charges of TNT, making up about 30 pounds of high explosives, were reported stolen from the Illinois Geological Survey building at the university, according to Sgt. Gary Brinkley of the university’s bomb disposal unit. Those explosives have not been found.
