Lucky Stores’ net earnings jumped 92.9% to $30.06 million in the second quarter. The improvement in earnings reflected strong sales gains, especially in California markets, and the decision to close its Gemco chain, Lucky said. The Dublin, Calif., company opened three supermarkets and closed one during the quarter for a total of 584 stores in operation.
