The fourth wrestler to flee from the Bulgarian national junior team at the recent World Championships in Vancouver, Canada, said he was helped by a member of the Turkish team.
Speaking through an interpreter, Ilyas Sukruyev, who was called Ilia Mitev before he left the team, said the Turk put him in touch with a Vancouver-area Turkish family who helped him escape.
The wrestler, who is of Turkish descent, said he has been granted asylum in Turkey.
