Track star Carl Lewis has decided not...
Track star Carl Lewis has decided not to try for four gold medals in the World Championships at Rome later this month and will skip the 200 meters.
Lewis will compete in the same three events he won at the 1983 inaugural world meet in Helsinki--100 meters, the long jump and the 400-meter relay.
“The basic reason is that the long jump comes after the 200 and if Carl ran the 200, it would be difficult for him to be in the shape he should be for the long jump,” said Mike Takaha, who assists Tom Tellez, the head coach at Houston and Lewis’ trainer.
