GAINESVILLE, Fla. — For Angel pitcher Doug Corbett will join the University of Florida baseball program as an assistant coach, head Coach Joe Arnold announced Tuesday.
Corbett, a Sarasota native, pitched in the Angels’ organization from 1982-86 and was most recently with the Baltimore Orioles before retiring recently because of a knee injury.
Corbett will be the pitching coach and will help in recruiting.
Corbett, who pitched at Florida from 1971-74, spent six years in the minor leagues before breaking in with the Minnesota Twins in 1980. He was a member of the American League All-Star team in 1981, went to the AL playoffs with the Angels in 1982 and was 5-1 with four saves and a 2.12 ERA in 1984. He also pitched in the AL Championship Series in 1986 after posting a 4-2 record with the Angels.
