Three Soviet cyclists broke the world record for the 500-meter flying start race in time trials at Moscow’s Krylatskoye Stadium, according to Tass, the official Soviet press agency. The fastest was Nikolai Kovsch, whose time of 26.715 seconds broke the old record of 27.469 seconds set by countryman Alexander Panfilov in 1984.
