Flying Clergyman Errs, Lands in Wrong State
PITTSBURGH, Pa. — An Ohio minister landed his single-engine plane at Pittsburgh’s international airport, thinking he was in Cumberland, Md., 70 miles away, according to authorities.
“I don’t know how you can mistake Cumberland for Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh has a much bigger airport,” said Kathleen Bergen of the Federal Aviation Administration.
The Rev. Charles H. Rogers left Columbus, Ohio, early Saturday in a Cessna 172, bound for Cumberland, in western Maryland southeast of Pittsburgh, according toBergen. He landed at 10:50 a.m. in Pittsburgh.
Airport officials contacted Rogers after he landed and “he indicated to our folks at the tower (that) he thought he’d landed at Cumberland,” Bergen said.
