Recently, on a “Disney Sunday Movie” rerun of “Hero in the Family,” there was repeated usage of the term “monkey” for the chimpanzee star of the film. In one scene, NASA even had “Monkey Lab” painted on the door! This continued misuse of terms appalls me and insults my intelligence as a viewer. And you can imagine how insulting it must be to the apes ! Screenwriters and producers, in my opinion, merely show their lack of intelligence, or perhaps even ignorance, when they misuse these terms. I, for one, would like to see a change where actors speak words of writers that display at least some of the intelligence we share with those magnificent creatures, the apes.
