Baseball Coach Augie Garrido of Cal State Fullerton, who has been negotiating with the University of Illinois, said he will leave Fullerton if Illinois installs a $1.5 million artificial turf baseball field.

“If I get a commitment from Illinois to put in an AstroTurf field, I will be going there,” Garrido said. “If I don’t get it, I will stay here. Everything else in the offer is workable. It is for three years.”

Garrido has coached at Fullerton for 14 years, each on a one-year contract--the last at a salary of $57,108. His teams have won two College World Series titles and 12 conference championships.
