The National Collegiate Athletic Assn. announced that Louisiana State did not break NCAA rules by hiring Jim Childers, basketball coach at Lower Richland High School in South Carolina, as an assistant coach.
Childers coaches Stanley Roberts, a 6-foot 11-inch, 272-pound center, considered one of the country’s best high school players. Roberts will be a senior this fall under Childers.
LSU Coach Dale Brown said that Childers will join his staff after the 1987-88 season in an unspecified coaching capacity.
