Dodgers Will Start Riscen in NBC Series
Left-hander Fred Riscen, who hasn’t lost in more than a month, will start for the Valley Dodgers in today’s 11 a.m. game against the Greensboro Brewers (24-2) of North Carolina.
The game, a third-round contest in the National Baseball Congress World Series, will be played at Eck Stadium on the Wichita State University campus in Wichita, Kan.
Although he turned in a rocky outing, Riscen was the winning pitcher in the Dodgers’ 10-4 win Tuesday over the Miami Typhoons in the first round of the 30-team double-elimination tournament. The former College of the Canyons pitcher, who allowed four runs in 5 innings, improved his record to 7-1 but his earned-run average rose to 3.41.
The Dodgers (30-7-1) are 1-1 in the tournament after losing Thursday, 5-4, to the Grand Rapids Sullivans of Michigan.
