An Israeli prosecutor, winding up his cross-examination of John Demjanjuk, accused the retired U.S. auto worker of being a liar and said he has no doubt that Demjanjuk was the Nazi death camp guard known as “Ivan the Terrible.” Referring to testimony in the trial, prosecutor Michael Shaked said that several Jewish survivors of Treblinka have identified Demjanjuk. In 40 hours of testimony, Demjanjuk, 67, has blamed lapse of memory, clerical errors and his own incomprehension when pressed to explain discrepancies between his testimony in Israel and in U.S. deportation hearings.
