Director John Huston quietly marked his 81st birthday Wednesday in the intensive care ward of a Fall River, Mass., hospital where he is recovering from an acute bout of pneumonia and emphysema. Huston, who was listed in fair condition Wednesday, planned to spend his birthday with family members, hospital officials said. The cast and crew of “Mr. North”--the film on which Huston was working when he became ill--were prohibited by hospital regulations from visiting Huston, but wrote their birthday wishes on a huge card that was taken to the hospital Tuesday night.
