A federal judge in Denver ruled that she cannot interfere with a ruling by the International Amateur Basketball Federation that prohibits basketball player Maria Rivera from participating in the Pan American Games for the United States.
Rivera, who plays for the University of Miami, was born in Puerto Rico and is a U.S. citizen. In 1979 and 1983, she played in the Pan Am Games as a member of the Puerto Rican team and, under IABF rules, she is therefore ineligible to compete for another country.
